However, by the end of their first year of marriage, Moushumi becomes restless. They marry but she is not like him. Gogol moves into their house, which becomes almost a replacement for his own home.
Jhuma Lahiri has managed to portray beautifully how Gogol’s mother Ashima adjusts to her life in a foreign countryhow she evolves from being a homesick housewife to a confident woman comfortable in her surroundings. Her own confused needs lead to further conflict.
